Shopping for long ties doesn't need to be frustrating. It shouldn't require several browser windows to compare stores and sizes. You shouldn't have to take trips to different department stores just to find something that fits. And it certainly doesn't require compromising on looks.
This is just some of the relieved feedback we've heard from tall customers and those buying ties on their behalf. Fortunately for them, and for you, we don't just have a few styles available in long sizes. Every tie we make is available in a long or extra long.
Since all our products are made to order on demand, we can create the exact custom ties you have your eyes on in any of our sizes. Whether you need a long or an extra long, our entire collection of neckties is available to you.
Meet Nick. You can't see his head because he's 6'8", but he was our resident print master and casual tie wearer. As you can see, our extra long tie fits him perfectly and the tail is plenty long.
It's not just our retail selection that come in several sizes, but all custom designs are available in your choice of lengths as well.
Giving ties as a gift to the tall groom and average groomsmen? Mix and match custom designs on four regular and one long tie. There are no limits.
Custom sizing doesn't just end there. We also offer all our neckties in three widths: Skinny, Knotty, and Classic. Not only do tall tie-wearers need a longer size, but they often prefer a more traditional width to fit their style. With our on-demand production these choices are available for every customer.
So why is it that tall and tall-ish guys struggle finding the right length tie for them?
Not every company makes long ties, and even fewer make extra long versions. If they do, their sizing charts are often all over the place and inconsistent.
We try to keep it simple. Our sizing suggestions are based around a modern look where the tie should reach down to the belt buckle or waistband. If you prefer to wear it shorter or longer keep that in mind as you determine your size.
Without any additional considerations, our general rules of thumb for sizing tall folks are as follows.
But we understand there are always other considerations.
How do you like to tie your necktie knot? A larger, more complex knot will use more of the tie and can change how much of the tail is available. If you're a tie-aficionado and know how to tie something fancy, this might be a consideration to size up.
Sizing too small can mean the tail of the tie often doesn't reach the catch. That little tag that tucks it neatly away is called the catch, and not reaching it leads to a dangling tail which nobody wants. Be sure to air on the side of caution when choosing your size tie to be certain that you can reach and use the catch.
For many guys being tall also means having a larger neck. It makes shopping for bow ties especially difficult (if that's your thing - we still have you covered) and can add some hassle to shopping for regular neckties.
If you're on the fence with our standard sizing suggestions listed above, take the time to measure your neck. If it's close to, or greater than 18", choose the next size up. This will allow for a more comfortable fit and make sure the tail reaches the catch.
Guys with tall chests and torsos may have encountered this problem in the past if sizing is solely based on your overall height. If you have long legs, keep in mind that the height from your waist to your neck may lead you to consider a standard, or just a long length.
Last but not least is the size of your stomach. Rarely is this something male shoppers like to admit to, but it's essential to consider how much your tie is not hanging vertically from the neck. The larger your stomach or chest is, and this goes for muscular guys as well, then the shorter the tie will end up being overall.
Again, if you think your stomach is going to shave a few inches off where you want the tie to fall at the waist, then size up and play it safe.
As you probably have seen from shopping around and price checking different stores, long ties tend to cost more. Sometimes even double the price of a regular tie. While it does cost more to make these longer versions, charging an arm and a leg is just dishonest to customers. That's why we've affordably priced our long custom ties with transparent markups for all the custom and retail ties we offer.
Since all our products are handmade in the USA, they do require some extra labor and love to create. Both of our longer tie options requires more fabric to be used and printed, along with additional time for stitching and finishing. If you're ordering a number of ties in different sizes, we do make note of the long ties on the bottom of the box so you don't have to guess which is the longer version.
Because tall guys also like bow ties, we offer them in multiple neck sizes to accommodate larger folks or those with bigger necks. All our of bow tie pattern collections are available in two self-tie sizes and three pre-tied sizes at no extra cost.
If you're just not sure of your bow tie size, simply measure the circumference of your neck and see where you stand. Our sizing choices are as follows:
